Management Training Course

Management training technical staff professionals

In-house Management Training Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne

A practical resource-rich experiential learning program for new managers, team leaders and supervisors. This program can also be tailored to suit more experienced managers.

‘The Fearless Manager’ program

The Fearless Manager™ program has been developed by Marketing Nous and is a participative learning experience designed to expose the new manager to a wide range of management practices and principles.

A key outcome of the program is to increase the confidence and self-awareness of managers so they are more comfortable and effective in their role.

There are three themes throughout the program:

  1. Managing Self
  2. Managing Others
  3. Managing Performance

Learning management skills requires active involvement, not just classroom time.

It is recognised that management is a practical, hands-on activity. To accelerate learning participants are actively involved and are expected to apply the material between sessions and discuss their experiences as the program progresses.

For the benefit of participants it is important this training becomes part of their day-to-day work, not a separate ‘training’ event that is ignored between sessions.

Who is this for?

This unique training and personal development program is structured to suit emerging managers, or mid-level managers needing a renewed focus on skill development and fresh thinking patterns, including:

  • People recently promoted into a management position.
  • Technical experts and professionals who lead a team.
  • Subject matter experts who have moved into a management role.
  • Management teams undergoing change and new challenges.

The Fearless Manager program is always tailored to suit the experience level within the group. Your requirements will be thoroughly discussed during the proposal process.

Due to the high degree of personal involvement in the program a maximum of eight participants per group is recommended. In most cases it is strongly recommended that participants are not placed in groups that contain their direct reports or their own manager. This peer-to-peer environment encourages full participation.

What happens?

Because the program is heavily oriented towards behavioural change – which occurs over time – the program is ideally based around a regular schedule of sessions, for example 3-hour sessions held every 2 weeks over 3 to 4 months.

Alternate formats

It is understood that it’s not always possible to get staff together on a two-weekly basis. Alternate timings can be considered to suit your requirements such as a two-day complete program with follow up, a one-day ‘essentials’ program, or half-day sessions scheduled on a monthly basis.

Implementation

To assist with implementation, especially after the scheduled program is finished, a buddy program is introduced that provides a structure for personal accountability and ongoing peer support.

The Fearless Manager program includes:

  • Personal assessments
  • Books, self-development tools and resource recommendations
  • Comprehensive training manual
  • Reflective activities based on workplace and personal experiences
  • Access to the facilitator between sessions

Topics covered during the program cover the three core themes of Managing Self, Managing Others, and Managing Performance including:

  • Management and leadership
  • From team member to team leader
  • Expectations of managers
  • Understanding business fundamentals
  • Tips and challenges/pitfalls for effective management
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Communication styles
  • Assertiveness
  • Writing, speaking, and looking like a manager
  • Self reflection, self control, self awareness
  • Time management
  • Delegation
  • Setting priorities
  • Models of team work
  • Generational differences
  • Running meetings
  • Methods of influence
  • Principles of performance management
  • Giving feedback
  • Managing performance reviews
  • And more…

Please note, topics listed are indicative of the standard program however they will be adjusted to suit your company and the learning objectives of your team.

Knowledge + Experience = Success

The intent of The Fearless Manager program is to equip managers with a broad base of knowledge (so they understand they have options) and a degree of practical experience (so they can become confident) that combine to give them the professional strength to manage their team and achieve their goals.
